Ephedrine HCL is derived from a herb that has a long history of being used safely. It is also referred to as Ephedra. Currently,
several dietary supplements contain Ephedrine HCL and are integral in weight loss programs. Ephedrine HCL comes from a plant
popularly known as Ephedra or ma huang which grows naturally in Asia. This plant produces ephedrine alkaloids and has been
used for the treatment of colds and flues for many years. There are different species of Ephedra and each species contains
different amounts of alkaloids. In the United States, the species known as Ephedra sinica is commonly used as a source of
ephedrine alkaloids for dietary supplements.
Ephedrine HCL is a stimulant drug that belongs to a medical group of sympathomimetic. It is an alpha as well as a beta adrenergenic
agonist. It acts on the body by contributing in enhancing the release of norepinephrine.
Ephedrine HCL for weight loss: Mode of action
Ephedrine HCL has been shown to have stimulants which increase the bodys metabolism thus resulting in short term loss of weight.
This is due to the increase in the release of norepinephrine which when it combines with adrenergic receptors, results in
relaxation of bronchioles and increased heart rate.
For someone who has not used ephedrine HCL before, it may contribute in raising body temperatures. This is because more fatty
acids are offered from the collapse of triglycerides present in adipose tissue. In this way, someone using it will lose some
of the subcutaneous fat making the body appear better in physique.
Ephedrine stimulates the central nervous system. This increases the heart rate with an overall heat producing effect on tissues
of the body including muscles and fat tissues helping in the induction of thermogenesis in the body. In this way, the user
of Ephedrine HCL burns off body fat enhancing weight loss. A sure way of losing weight is by increasing the rate at which
the body burns energy and also reducing the intake at the same time.
Ephedrine has also been shown to assist in weight loss when used in combination with caffeine and herbs that contain caffeine
such as aspirin. Unlike other products, the Ephedra plant has caffeine which occurs naturally hence it is safe to use.
To achieve effectiveness in losing weight, Ephedrine should be used in combination with maintaining a healthy diet and doing
regular exercise.
Despite these uses of ephedrine for weight loss, these effects seem to be too mild for obesity treatment.
Side effects of ephedrine HCL
Ephedrine can have side effects if taken in too high amounts or for starters. Starters on the drug may experience tremors,
rapid heart rate, sweating and dizziness. Anxiety and nervousness can also result from the uptake of Ephedrine HCL. This is
due to the strong stimulant effect that can make one jittery.
The compound can also disrupt normal sleeping patterns. It can cause a rise in blood pressure therefore is not recommended
for use if one suffers from high blood pressure or any other cardiac irregularities. In extreme cases the drug can cause heart
attacks and even death.
